Through Wednesday, January 7, 2026 we present the all-new Tales of the Valiant Bundle featuring Tales of the Valiant, the Kobold Press FRPG of high adventure in a Labyrinth of infinite worlds. Funded in a million-plus May 2023 Kickstarter campaign, Tales of the Valiant is a polished, versatile alternative to Dungeons & Dragons that uses the open Black Flag Roleplaying system compatible with D&D Fifth Edition. Lineages and Heritages make every starting character different. Character classes get upgraded abilities like Talents, wider spell selection, and Martial Actions. Downtime activities give you interesting decisions between combats, and Luck points help you survive to make those decisions. Every monster has options to make encounters memorable and challenging. And the Labyrinth – a magical maze that connects countless fantasy realms – makes porting your existing characters to Tales of the Valiant as easy as sending them down a corridor.

Tales of the Valiant originated in the January 2023 controversy around the Open Game License and attempts by Wizards of the Coasts to revoke it. Companies that had published extensively for D&D 5E under the OGL raced to produce new open systems immune from corporate backsliding. Within a week, Kobold Press announced Project Black Flag, a new system to be released under the open, perpetual, and irrevocable Open RPG Creative License (ORC). The firestorm ended in March 2023 when Wizards released the D&D System Reference Document 5.1 under Creative Commons, with SRD 5.2 following in May. Still, Kobold continued with Black Flag development, promising “core compatibility with the 5E products you already know and love, but with a Kobold spin. Project Black Flag will embrace 5E and expand upon it.” Kobold published the Tales of the Valiant Player’s Guide and Monster Vault .PDFs in May 2024 and the Game Master’s Guide in October, and followed with a steady stream of dual-compatible 5E/ToV adventures. In July 2025 Kobold released the Black Flag Reference Document under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International, guaranteeing the system will remain permanently and irrevocably open.

This all-new Tales of the Valiant Bundle gives you the core rulebooks and many adventures for a bargain price. Pay just US$24.95 to get all eight titles in our Valiant Collection (retail value $114) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the complete Tales of the Valiant Player’s Guide and Game Master’s Guide, the first Monster Vault bestiary, and five adventures for character levels 1-3: Adventures of Dib, Shards of the Spellforge, Trouble at Mossbeard Mill, Sea of Bones, and Caverns of the Spore Lord.

This Tales of the Valiant offer disappears into the Bastion of Dreamsedge, the prison-fortress that drifts on the churning Sea of Bones at the edge of the Void Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Through Monday, January 5, 2026 we present two offers featuring Mongoose Traveller Second Edition: the revived November 2022 Mongoose Traveller Explorations Bundle and its all-new companion, the Traveller Ancients Campaign.

1. TRAVELLER EXPLORATIONS [from Nov 2022]

This November 2022 Mongoose Traveller Explorations Bundle once again gives you the core rulebook and many sourcebooks about Charted Space. If you’re new to the game, start here. Pay just US$12.95 to get all four titles in this revived offer’s Starter Collection (retail value $97) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the complete Traveller Core Rulebook Update 2022 along with the sector sourcebooks Behind the Claw and Sword Worlds.

And if you pay more than this revival’s threshold (average) price, which is set at $27.95 to start, you’ll level up and also get this offer’s entire Bonus Collection with six more titles worth an additional $126, including Aliens of Charted Space V1 and V2, the Sword Worlds campaign Skandersvik, the Spinward Marches sourcebooks The Bowman Arm and The Lunion Shield Worlds, and Deneb Adventure 1: The Lost Duke.

2. TRAVELLER ANCIENTS CAMPAIGN [all-new]

Written by Gareth Hanrahan (Pirates of Drinax, Dracula Dossier, Darkening of Mirkwood) and current Traveller line editor Martin J Dougherty, these three long scenarios send the Travellers across the Spinward Marches sector to discover millennia-old secrets of the inscrutable Ancients. The characters see sights no human has ever dreamed of, meddle with powers beyond understanding, clash with secret factions within the Imperium, gain superhuman abilities, and ultimately help shape the destiny of all Charted Space.

The story of the Ancients starts 350,000 years before the Third Imperium. The Droyne, first of the six Major Races to develop the jump drive, spread throughout Charted Space and beyond. In an effort to create suitable workers, they took humans and wolves from Earth and seeded them, sometimes with genetic modification, on many worlds. Some 60 millennia ago, a 2,000-year Final War destroyed the Ancient civilization and its technology, leaving the surviving Droyne as simple, seemingly harmless workers who are nevertheless pervasive across Charted Space. The cause of the war, the disappearance of the Ancients, and the nature of the Droyne remain mysterious. With more than 800 pages of far-future and dimension-spanning adventure, the Secrets of the Ancients trilogy reveals much of the Droyne past, and may rescue the Third Imperium’s future.

Like the Ancients, this Mongoose trilogy has a long history:

In 1984 GDW published Classic Traveller Adventure 12, Secrets of the Ancients as a kind of capstone to the CT adventure line. Written by the entire GDW Traveller team, and larger than any previous adventure to that time (64 pages!), A12 drew on plot threads from A02, Research Station Gamma, and A03, Twilight’s Peak. We presented A12 in the January 2016 Traveller Little Black Books Bundle 2.

To promote its own Traveller First Edition in 2010, Mongoose released, in ten free weekly installments, a Secrets of the Ancients campaign by MgT 1E designer Gareth Hanrahan. Later collected (we presented the one-volume version in our April 2016 Mongoose Traveller 1E offer), the 2010 Secrets expanded and furthered the premise of the GDW original, introducing to the modern Third Imperium some significant consequences and conflicts – and adversaries – from the Ancients’ Final War.

After Traveller Second Edition appeared in 2016, Mongoose updated and expanded the 1E Secrets campaign, publishing a full-color 256-page hardcover in 2021. Martin Dougherty wrote separate lead-in and trailing campaigns, published as Mysteries and Wrath of the Ancients in 2023. Together the three books can keep any gaming group busy for years. All three of these 2E campaigns debut in the Bundle of Holding in this all-new Traveller Ancients Campaign.

Pay just $17.95 to get all three campaign-length adventures in this offer’s Ancients Collection (retail value $71), including Mysteries of the Ancients, Secrets of the Ancients, and Wrath of the Ancients.

Note: These three adventures require the rulebook in this new offer’s revived companion bundle from November 2022, Traveller Explorations. Behind the Claw, the Spinward Marches sourcebook in the same offer, is also helpful.

These two Mongoose Traveller offers vanish together in the Fuller Experimental Mining Installation on Calefaction moments before the planet cracks apart and falls into its sun Monday, January 5, 2026.

For Reasons, I need three colors of apples in my story. I'm looking for a bright, deep red; a strong yellow/gold; and an intense, bold green. (All when ripe, preferably.) Right now I've got good ol' Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith, but I'd like somethng more exciting (and more strongly colored) for at least two of them.

The setting is technically modern-day Illinois, but it's a post-apocalyptic scenario with a lot of supernatural stuff going on, so exotic varieties from other climes would be entirely feasible. I have a character who can be an apple expert if it's a variety so unusual that most USians wouldn't recognize it. Grafting, planting, import/export, and pretty much any other limitations can all be readily hand-waved by the aforementioned supernatural stuff.

TIA, Malus enthusiasts!

My female main character just told someone she's dyslexic. News to me, but that's how my characters roll <3 and it may perhaps help ground something else about her as a secondary consequence of childhood struggles with reading.

I've read a lot but it's all professional overviews and such, not enough from people who actually are. Right now I'm looking for small things I can tuck in which will suggest dyslexia to attentive, aware readers without spelling it out. She is 32 and those who are closest to her will be well used to working with her needs.

A few childhood memories can be tucked in as well.

Another question for those with dyslexia, if someone suggests reading novels out loud to her, would that be likely to work or might there still be difficulties with following everything? I understand there's a range of differences but I'd like to have her be fairly representative that way if I do include that sort of scene. Or maybe he suggests novels and she asks for short stories?

I'd like to do better than just 'trouble reading' and consequently struggled at school.

Her possibly relevant characteristics (things mentioned on the overview sites) which can't change - she is very adept physically and has excellent spatial awareness, reaction times, navigation skills and such. No dyspraxia or ADHD. If there's any executive dysfunction, it needs to be limited and compensated for well. She needs to be quick-witted, adaptable and confident she can hold her own in conversation with people who are trying to get the upper hand too.

But so far there's only one scene where she reads or writes anything and that can be altered. It's almost like she's been trying to tell me this all along.

I hope this makes sense. If you feel the need to tell me how wrong I am, please be gentle with your vehemence.

TIA for any help.
